Key Purpose of the Job (Position Summary)

 

This position is responsible leading and managing the Environment, Health & Safety policies, processes and systems at CEAT. The role incumbent shall be responsible to ensure that the company is compliant with all the Environment, Health & Safety regulations, norms and standards as required from a statutory and best practices perspective through the EHS teams in the Plant.

KEY ACTIVITIES  & RESPONSIBILITIES

EHS Policies & Processes

Communication & implementation of Policies

  • Lead the communication of EHS Policies across the organization through communication sessions, providing copies of EHS Manuals across locations, and awareness creation initiatives etc.
  • Take initiatives to assess understanding of the EHS Policies amongst employees and build initiatives to reinforce the same
  • Ensure all information regarding any hazardous process, related to health and safety issues, is communicated to all employees in a timely manner
  • Implement all EHS procedures as defined in EHS manuals
  • Regularly audit and inspect site for EHS compliance verification

Safety & Health related Activities

  • Lead and drive initiatives to inculcate a safety culture in the area of responsibility
  • Develop and conduct health, safety and environmental training programs including demonstration of use of safety equipment
  • Ensure medical staff, first-aid facilities, emergency procedures, safety signs, protective clothing and equipment are available
  • Drive initiatives and awareness campaigns across locations to reduce no. of incidents and accidents across all locations
  • Assign relevant responsibilities and authorities at each location to address issues and concerns related to health and safety
  • Investigate major accidents / incidents promptly and recommend appropriate remedial measures and controls to prevent them in future
  • Respond to emergency situations and recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes and materials
  • Perform surveys and routine inspections in areas of safety in plant
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to worker’s health and safety
  • Develop and provide new-employee health and safety orientations at the Plant
  • Drive EHS capability building by implementing effective training programs focused on driving an EHS culture
  • Effective implementation of BBS program

Environment related activities

  • Promote and coordinate the integration of environmental management and sustainability issues with organizational policies, operations, procedures and conduct
  • Ensure legal compliance with rules and regulations defined for various Plants/ production process
  • Plan for, and facilitate the implementation of various initiatives towards energy management, water/ noise management and hazardous waste management process in Plants and monitor implementation
  • Lead initiatives like rainwater harvesting, water recycling, and solar energy harvesting to contribute to environment and also to reducing costs for the organization
  • Drive initiatives to reduce the consumption of key utilities like water, fuel and power
  • Participate in the planning and development process for any new premises/ plant and provide inputs on building design, landscaping bio-diversity, etc.
  • Lead the EHS team in taking initiatives for raising awareness towards environmental issues at workplace, and periodically communicate with the employees towards the same
  • Ensure site preparedness for participation into BSC 5 Star certification audit for Occupational Health and Safety Management System.

Compliance, Reporting and Audit

  • Lead the implementation of ISO 45001:2018 & ISO 14001:2015 and also review the same for re-certification
  • Liaison with concerned statutory bodies and government authorities on issues related to Environment and Safety relevant to the company
  • Build and institutionalize a structured reporting system to ensure all EHS related activities, incidents and accidents across locations are reported
  • Review the periodic reports related to EHS received from locations to check repetitive incidents and take corrective actions
  • Undertake periodic EHS audits across all the locations to assess level of compliance to policies, safety standards and statutory requirements,.
  • Lead the implementation of corrective actions related to internal/external audit findings

People Management

  • Regularly conduct training sessions for the plant team, management staff and supervisors on correct methods of operations and usage of machine and safety equipment, environmental compliances. EHS legal requirements & ISO standards

Education and Experience Required

 

Education:

BE/BTech(Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical), with Advance Diploma in Industrial Safety from CLI/RLI or M.Tech (Safety) from REC Trichy or any recognised institution

Experience:

2 - 6 years of experience of working in EHS department for a manufacturing company with exposure to working in a plant
