Purpose of the Role

A Mechanical specialist is expected to design and develop the product in consideration to the mechanical requirements of the surge arrester. This role would require taking the lead and delivering the structural/thermal design of arresters working in a team for development, testing etc. while collaborating with internal/external stakeholders. It is also expected to handhold the product till it is transitioned smoothly to operations and successfully productionized

Key Deliverables

•Active participation in the design reviews in the product development process, including the understanding of customer requirements and mapping to CTQ (critical to quality) design features.
•Effective design of the arrester concepts to meet the mechanical and structural requirements as per the application and governing standards.
•Scrutinize design concepts using PUGH matrix for cost, lead time, quality, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.
•Conduct FEA simulations to achieve optimum design and provide analysis reports on the design with feedback and enhancements if any needed.
•Interpret the results from CAE tools effectively and inculcate the culture of built-in quality (DFQ – design for quality) in product designing.
•Assist the new product development team with rapid prototyping techniques, testing and validation of proto samples.
•Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure that product meets customer specifications.
•Work with the manufacturing department to ensure that the product designs are optimized for manufacturability and assembly.
