Key Purpose of the Job (Position Summary)

The position is responsible to ensure 100% quality of product as per the process standard, thereby eliminating the waste, defectives & rework both in-house and at customer end. The position is responsible for understanding, monitoring and reporting of process quality issues so as to ensure timely corrective actions are undertaken and improvement in overall quality.

 

 

 

 

 

KEYPERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Coordination of various QA activities with various outsourcing partners
  • Sustain and improve in-process quality index on a continuous basis
  • Reduce rejection, rework, and stock discrepancies.
  • Ensure resolution of customer complaints
  • Ensure reduction of cost of poor quality
  • Ensure timely and effective process and product audit
  • Ensure implementation of improvement projects
  • Ensure report of status of quality is provided to management
  • Compile and communicate MIS from various OS partners to CEAT stake holders
  • Coordinate certifications and product surveillance audits at various locations

 

 

 

 

 

KEY ACTIVITIES  & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic:

  • Provide guidance to OS partner’s quality teams for effective operation.
  • Ensure implementation of operational strategies for the plant quality department.
  • Build culture of proactive quality

 

Quality Management

  • Develop, implement & review plant quality related activities
  • Implement and monitor daily, weekly and monthly activities related to in process inspection activities.
  • Prepare, implement and monitor machine/ component wise inspection plans
  • Implement and monitor process control activities. Periodic audit of process control parameters for improvement
  • Attend regular cross functional meetings to understand shift wise quality issues and take corrective actions as required
  • Prepare reports and participate in meetings with plant senior management on quality issues
  • Understand product related quality issues and suggest corrective actions for the same
  • Manage information with respect to process performance, rejection rate, vendor rating, self inspection vendors, quality projects undertaken, quality policy deployment etc.
  • Prepare and monitor quality management audits as per system – internal and external.
  • Follow-up on non-conformance reports. Exercise and monitor various controls to keep rejection at minimum.
  • Monitor implementation of quality management systems and environment management systems in line with corporate policies.
  • Analyzing styles / vendor capabilities and identify potential issues in bulk and work with Vendor and internal teams to resolve the issues by proactively taking preventive and corrective measures.
  • Review bulk production right from Planning meeting stage to interim inspections at and finishing before final inspection and shipment.
  • Conduct In line and Final Inspections to assess the gaps in the systems and procedures being followed by the vendors.
  • Release non-conformed products for improvement.
  • Attend to major rejections and major rework issues
  • Identify repeated stock discrepancies and take corrective action
  • Exercise, monitor & control to keep non-conformance at the minimum.
  • Work on quality issues related to new product development components.
  • Carry out calibration of machines and arrange for calibration of machines and instruments on the shop floor. Extend support to vendor for calibration
  • Coordinate with production, design and materials for nonconformities and continuous improvement
  • Coordinate with suppliers/ vendors & materials department for repeated stock discrepancies.
  • Identify and eliminate waste
  • Conduct internal audits as well as review and monitor audit reports
  • Monitor and control quality costs, processes improvement / cost reduction activities etc.
  • Analyze claims data and report it to the plant senior management
  • Process improvement awareness through visual display
  • Implementation of quality assurance plans and other processes/ systems such as SAP etc
  • Manage information with respect to rejection rate, stock discrepancies etc

 

Customer support

 

  • Monitor and manage customer complaints and ensure corrective actions are followed to avoid recurrences.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of customer complaints and provide reports to Plant Quality Head for remedial actions.
  • Participate in quality related discussions with Customers and Marketing team 
  • Support the Plant Quality Head in discussions with the customers to resolve disputes with respect to customer rejections
  • Analyze new defective/ premature complaints and suggest corrective actions

 

MIS and Reports

 

  • Ensure SAP is updated regularly and accurately by the team. 
  • Prepare reports and make recommendations for improving overall quality and solving chronic problems
  • Ensure compilation and reporting of information on - Quality status, Plant Quality rating, Defects analysis, Complaint sample results, Market sample results, Claims data and major deviations.
  • Ensure documentation of various BIS and ISO 9000 related compliances.

 

 

 

 

Education and Experience Required

Education:

B.Tech./ BE degree in Polymer/ Rubber Technology/ Mechanical, with relevant certifications in Quality Systems and Standards

Good computer knowledge (MS Office, SAP, MES

Good Communication Skill

Experience:

8 - 10 years

Experience in Tyre Industries is preferred
