Job Purpose

The Manager – Materials will be responsible for planning, procurement coordination, inventory control, and overall materials management to support project and business requirements. The role involves ensuring timely availability of materials, optimizing inventory levels, coordinating with vendors and internal stakeholders, monitoring material movement, and maintaining compliance with organizational processes and commercial requirements.


Key Responsibilities

1. Materials Planning & Procurement Coordination

  • Plan and monitor material requirements in line with project schedules, business demands, and operational priorities.
  • Coordinate with procurement, projects, stores, and user departments to ensure timely availability of materials.
  • Review material indents, purchase requisitions, and procurement plans to support uninterrupted project execution and operations.
  • Track procurement status and expedite critical materials in coordination with sourcing / purchase teams.

2. Inventory Management

  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimum stock availability while avoiding overstocking or shortages.
  • Review stock positions, consumption patterns, and reorder requirements on a regular basis.
  • Ensure proper inventory control of raw materials, project materials, consumables, spares, and equipment, as applicable.
  • Drive inventory optimization and reduction of non-moving / slow-moving stock.

3. Material Receipt, Storage & Issue Monitoring

  • Oversee receipt, inspection coordination, storage, preservation, and issuance of materials in compliance with company procedures.
  • Ensure proper tracking of inward and outward movement of materials across stores / project sites.
  • Monitor material handling, storage conditions, and preservation practices to avoid damage, loss, or deterioration.
  • Coordinate with stores / site teams for proper accounting and utilization of materials.

4. Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with vendors, transporters, procurement teams, project teams, finance, and stores for smooth material flow.
  • Coordinate with suppliers for dispatch schedules, delivery follow-ups, shortage / damage resolution, and pending material issues.
  • Support resolution of commercial and supply-related issues impacting project / operational timelines.

5. MIS, Documentation & System Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of material planning, receipts, issues, stock balances, and consumption.
  • Ensure timely updating of material transactions and inventory records in ERP / SAP systems.
  • Prepare periodic MIS and reports related to stock position, material availability, pending deliveries, shortages, excess stock, and inventory aging.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, documentation standards, audit requirements, and company policies related to material management.

6. Cost Control & Optimization

  • Support cost optimization initiatives through effective inventory planning, reduction of excess stock, and minimization of material wastage.
  • Monitor material utilization and coordinate with relevant teams for efficient deployment of available resources.
  • Assist in budgetary control related to materials and stores functions, wherever applicable.

7. Team Management & Process Improvement

  • Guide and support the materials / stores team in day-to-day operations and process compliance.
  • Identify opportunities for improving material planning, tracking, and inventory control processes.
  • Drive best practices in materials management, coordination, and reporting.

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Supply Chain / Commerce / Management
  • MBA / PGDM in Materials Management / Supply Chain / Operations will be an added advantage

Experience

  • 8–12 years of relevant experience in materials management / inventory control / procurement coordination / stores operations
  • Experience in EPC / Infrastructure / Manufacturing / Power / Renewables / Engineering projects will be preferred
