Job Purpose

To lead and manage all activities related to prototype inspection and full-scale testing of transmission line towers, monopoles, and related structures while ensuring compliance with customer requirements, international testing standards, NABL (ISO/IEC 17025), quality systems, safety standards, and project timelines.


Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Execution

  • Plan, schedule, and execute prototype inspections and tower testing activities.
  • Prepare testing schedules in coordination with customers and internal departments.
  • Ensure timely completion of testing projects as per customer commitments.
  • Monitor project progress and optimize resource utilization.

2. Customer Coordination

  • Coordinate with customers for:
    • Prototype inspection schedules
    • Tower testing schedules
    • Approval of testing procedures
    • Rigging charts
    • Final test reports
  • Handle technical discussions with domestic and international customers.
  • Provide technical support during customer visits and inspections.

3. Technical Responsibilities

  • Perform prototype and full-scale load testing of:
    • Transmission Line Towers
    • Lattice Steel Towers
    • Monopoles
    • Special Transmission Structures
  • Review tower designs and testing feasibility.
  • Prepare and approve:
    • Tower Testing Procedures
    • Rigging Charts
    • Test Programs
    • Test Reports
  • Ensure compliance with IS, IEC, and client specifications.

4. Laboratory & NABL Management

  • Serve as the Contact Person for NABL accreditation.
  • Function as Technical Manager of the Tower Testing Laboratory.
  • Act as Authorized Signatory under ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
  • Maintain NABL documentation and laboratory quality systems.
  • Conduct Internal Audits as per NABL requirements.
  • Coordinate external surveillance and accreditation audits.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

5. Quality Management

  • Ensure adherence to Quality Management Systems.
  • Monitor testing accuracy and reliability.
  • Review calibration records and testing equipment.
  • Drive continual improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record maintenance.

6. Team Leadership

  • Lead a team of Engineers, Supervisors, Technicians, and Operators.
  • Allocate work based on priorities.
  • Monitor productivity and performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching.
  • Conduct performance reviews and training.

7. Resource & Manpower Management

  • Plan manpower deployment.
  • Monitor utilization of testing resources.
  • Ensure availability of testing equipment.
  • Optimize manpower productivity.
  • Coordinate with maintenance for equipment readiness.

8. Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure safe execution of tower testing activities.
  • Enforce plant safety rules.
  • Conduct risk assessments before testing.
  • Ensure statutory and customer compliance.
  • Promote a strong safety culture.

9. Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare:
    • Daily Reports
    • Weekly Reports
    • Monthly MIS
    • Testing Certificates
    • Final Test Reports
  • Maintain traceability of testing records.
  • Present project updates to management.

10. Continuous Improvement

  • Improve testing processes.
  • Reduce testing cycle time.
  • Enhance laboratory efficiency.
  • Implement Lean and Quality Improvement initiatives.

Educational Qualification

  • B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • M.Tech preferred

Experience

  • 10–15 years of experience in transmission tower design, prototype testing, structural testing, or heavy engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
