Position Overview:

The Senior Engineer - EHS is responsible for implementing and managing environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and to mitigate risks in the workplace. This role will involve conducting risk assessments, developing safety programs, managing hazardous materials, and ensuring the organization meets or exceeds EHS standards. The Senior Engineer will also be involved in training employees, preparing reports, and overseeing safety compliance initiatives across the organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • EHS Program Development & Implementation: Design, implement, and manage environmental, health, and safety programs, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA).
  • Risk Assessment & Hazard Control: Conduct environmental and safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to eliminate or control risks. Perform root cause analyses for safety incidents and recommend corrective actions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental and safety regulations and standards. Prepare and submit required regulatory reports, documentation, and permits to regulatory agencies.
  • Environmental Management: Monitor and manage environmental impacts (e.g., waste, emissions, water, energy consumption) to minimize the company’s environmental footprint. Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Training & Awareness: Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees to ensure awareness of safety standards, proper use of equipment, and emergency response procedures. Conduct regular safety meetings and workshops.
  • Incident Investigation & Reporting: Lead investigations into EHS-related incidents, including accidents, injuries, or near-misses. Document findings and implement corrective and preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • EHS Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, audits, and training. Prepare regular reports on safety performance, regulatory compliance, and environmental impacts for senior management.
  • Emergency Response & Preparedness: Develop, test, and manage emergency response plans, including procedures for fires, chemical spills, or other workplace emergencies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Recommend and implement continuous improvement initiatives in EHS practices. Monitor industry best practices and emerging regulations to enhance the company’s EHS performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including operations, HR, and facilities, to ensure a safe working environment and that EHS policies are being followed across all areas of the organization.
  • Leadership & Mentoring: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior EHS staff and other team members. Foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
    • Master’s degree or advanced certifications in EHS disciplines is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in EHS engineering or a related field, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or large-scale operational environment.
    • Proven experience in managing EHS programs, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance.
    • Experience in leading incident investigations, environmental assessments, and hazard control processes.
  • Certifications:
    • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar certifications are highly preferred.
    • Certification in environmental management systems (ISO 14001) or occupational health and safety management systems (ISO 45001) is a plus.
    • First Aid, CPR, or other safety-related certifications preferred.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong understanding of EHS regulations and standards, including OSHA, EPA, and local regulations.
    • Proficient in conducting EHS audits, hazard assessments, and risk analysis.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement corrective actions.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Ability to develop and deliver effective training programs.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and EHS management software.
